Tomorrow is the big day. If the United States wins against Ghana there´s a pretty good chance we are advancing to the next round, which is a pretty sizable accomplishment considering how the World Cup starting out for our side.
We are leaving Sitges, Spain at around 9 a.m. local time in order to arrive in Valencia no later than 1 p.m. We´ve decided to rent a car, rather than risk train travel that would get us into town no later than 2 p.m. Hopefully the gamble pays off.
In addition to watching the U.S. game, I´m also hoping to get a better feel of how Spain feels about its national team. Today I found out that one of the reasons the mood here was so subdued is because the Catalonians don´t really support the national team. It´s a whole political thing that I don´t really care to get into at this moment. Believe it or not, there was more energy surround Argentina´s match against Holland than there was for Spain´s last game. In any case, Valencia promises to give me a much better gauge of Spanish national pride.
Expect a full report from the U.S.-Ghana match, as well as some observations on European coffee, topless sunbathing and maybe even how it loosely relates to soccer.
